Nightlife in Barcelona
Barcelona is known for its nightlife and aside from Gaudi and shopping, it is one of the main reasons people go there for a short break. The city just comes alive after dark and its mix of students, foreigners as well as locals ensures that all interests are catered for. From salsa clubs to trance and hip hop, Barcelona’s nightclubs know how to attract the punters.
Antilla Barcelona
Caller Aragò 141-143
Due to Barcelona’s large Cuban population, it has some of the hottest salsa clubs than anywhere outside of Havana. Centrally located in the Eixample, Antilla Barcelona is one of the best. Although it’s not much to look at in terms of décor, what really matters is that it makes up for it with the sizzle of its salsa and meringues. What's more, people don't come here to listen; they come to dance, and the club thoughtfully provides instructors to give lessons through the night so even the most awkward patrons will be swaying like Celia Cruz by the end of the evening. Antilla is open Sundays to Tuesdays from 10.30pm to 4am, Wednesdays until 5am, Fridays and Saturdays from 11pm until 6am.
Otto Zutz CLub
Gracia
Carrer Lincoln, 15
Otto Zutz Club is located in what used to be a textile factory and has retained the industrial feel about it. People from all walks of life from bankers to transsexuals all come here to dance until dawn on one of its three dance floors. Although it is no longer The hippest club in town, it is still a lot of fun, particularly when a good visiting DJ is spinning the tunes. For a slightly more mellow experience, try and get into the Hot Club, a club within the club where the music is more toned down. Otto Zutz is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11pm until 6am.
Alfa Club
Mayor de Gracia 36
If you’re looking for a true Spanish clubbing experience, the beautifully decorated Alfa Club is where it’s at. Alfa is small in comparison to the large touristy clubs but its intimate atmosphere will envelope you, making you feel like a regular. The music is good here and there are parts where it’s possible to chat without shouting over the noise. Alfa Club is open Thursdays to Saturdays from 11pm until 3am.
Rita Blue
Plaza Sant Agusti 3 (close to Las Ramblas)
Located close to Las Ramblas, between Liceu and Boqueria, this popular club is comprised of two floors and terrace on the square. Rita Blue is a modern establishment with a funky, retro interior. The restaurant upstairs serves up Mexican and Mediterranean dishes and also offers a good lunch menu. You can also relax to music at the bar upstairs serving classic cocktails. The basement of Rita Blue often hosts live performances and during the weekend you can dance to house and techno beats on the crowded dancefloor.
Bar Six
Eixample
Caller Muntaner 6
If you don’t feel up to the crowds and techno beats of the 20 something clubbing scene, Bar Six offers a stylish and plush alternative. This relatively grown up bar is one of the most chilled-out bars in Barcelona.
